A journey is a web, a collage, a choose your own adventure series you did and didn’t write.

You build pieces of the web, strand it out. Not bad. Oh. Someone just walked through your web as they went out the door (or arrived) – as they crossed a threshold, now wearing your web. Okay. No matter. Memory lives inside – the learning, the skill, the growth. Maybe you decide to build a bit differently, just a strand here or there, or, waaaaay over there. You realize certain configurations are no longer working or needed. (You may realize also that no longer working and no longer needed are not necessarily the same thing.)

A journey is a collage. And a journey can be collage-making. Listening. Curious. You are drawn to an image, a word, a particular arrangement. You sense in, gather, observe, act. You don’t know the whole stories, all the meanings, any. You sense something. You listen. You follow. You build. You grow.  

Influence work is a collage, a journey, a choose your own adventure – or, you don’t choose much. But you are in an adventure and you either consider what might be helpful here, now, what might be within your sphere of influence, and act, practice, or you don’t.

The flows of compassion from yourself to yourself and from yourself to others, and the cultivation of these, are a collage you build and there is no one right collage or one definitively right Step One – except –
To begin where you are,
And choose the intent,
And take a step.
And then take a next one.

Therapy, ultimately, is both a collage and is part of one.
